We proud to share 2017 Bridal Hair and Make up looks created by Key West Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist Elena Southcott. With the 2017 wedding season fast approaching hopefully this ispiration looks will be helpfll to 2017 Key West Brides.
My research at this time of the year turns to the Bridal catwalk shows and big name designers to what is new and what timeless looks remain popular. My clients will always ask what is ‘on trend’ for the coming year.
In 2017 make up is fresher, and subtle with small flashes of colour here and there from a cheek or lip. As always dewy, glowy skin remains very present as a classic, modern make up look for a Bride.
Hair seems to have taken a gentler side too with very natural flowy hair down looks but braids do remain a dominant look too, either incorporated into a style or making up the whole hairstyle.
Remember the key is just to take a small part of these influences and incorporate them into your overall look so that your look remains timeless.
I am loving both of these understated, nearly natural looks. Dewy skin and a pale pink lip look fabulous against our beautiful tropical settings. Let your flowers etc. do the talking and keep the make-up simple. For a subtle peachy pink lip try Bourjois Souffle de Velvet in VIP Peach. Long lasting too.
For hair I am loving these low twisted chignon type braids – perfect to keep you cool and your hair neat in the heat of a Key West summer.
Also these half up/half down with the braid at the back is a timeless look for a modern Bride.
If you wish to discuss any wedding hair and makeup ideas (I’ve got lots!) Then don’t hesitate to get in touch via the contact page and we can talk all things wedding hair and beautiful makeup!
Meg and Chris had their fabulous wedding at Key Audubon House and Gardens on a gorgeous February day.
I met up with Meg a day before for hair and makeup trial. It was an instant like! On a wedding day I came to her suite and proceeded to get everyone ready with hair and makeup which made for a super time.
There was a lot of excitement, laughter and giggles with this group and we just loved being included in this special time.
Meg wore her hair half up half down down with loose, defined curles. Love the stunning broche that I actually head to saw into her hair. It was a family treasure for over 100 years and can not be lost.
For her makeup Meg wanted a strong eye with false eyelashes, rosy checks and a lips. She looked so glam.
Congratulations Meg and Chris.Wishing them both a wonderful life together!!!!

As a makeup artist for over a decade working with a brides, I mast say:
“Makeup was invented to hide imperfections and to accentuate the beautiful angles and features on the face that you were born with”.
As a bridal makeup artist, I consider myself quite good at this task. I accomplish this using makeup that is usually found in tones that resemble human skin or rich bronzers. I use blushes and highlighters that will make your skin glow and reflect the light in just the right way.
Embrace your face, dear brides. The editorial makeup that might be appropriate for the cover of Vogue does not always translate well into real life.
For a wedding makeup, I suggest a more realistic “eye look” that will allow you to feel comfortable while still making you look good. I say “Let’s create a look that shows off your eye color and makes you look like a better version of yourself.
After 17 years as a bridal makeup artist, I can tell as soon as you sit in my chair, if you can handle a lot of makeup or not. But at least once a day non-makeup wearing bride will sit down and look me straight in the face and say “I think I would like a smoky eye. At the same time, begging me, not make them look like a clown. I would suggest “Let’s create a look that shows off your eye color and makes you look like a better version of yourself.
Those of you who think you are doing a great contouring job, I have some unfortunate news. We can see it from a mile away. We don’t see you and say, “Wow — those cheekbones that she was born with are amazing!” We say, “Wow, her flesh is hidden underneath 20 layers of foundation and banana powder
For bridal makeup,I would highly reccomend considering an airbrush foundation verses traditional makeup. It will give you deep beautiful bronze in the hollow of your cheek and a radiant sheen on the high point of your cheekbone. Best of all it will feel light and look natural. I will contour your face, but I will do it the way I was taught by some of the very best makeup artists on the planet. You will look like a bombshell bride, with hydrated glowing skin and makeup that makes your blue eyes pop and your cheekbones glow. You are simply a better version of yourself, and you will walk down the isle with your head held high, ready for your wedding day.
I Hope this was helpful and see you all soon at my studio: Elena Southcott @ Key West Wedding Hair & Makeup Artistry.
Your happily ever after is right around the corner – and, as a bride, you want to look simply flawless on the Big Day. How to make sure you create the best hairstyle for such a huge moment in your life? We have gathered some tips for you – so read on and find out more.Yo Do your homework. The first step to choosing the best hairstyle for your wedding day is to run a little research. See what types of hairstyles you love and who can pull them off best in your area. Search for the very best wedding hairstylist where you live, or where you want to have your wedding – read their reviews, talk to them, and don’t forget to schedule a trial appointment as well. Make sure you have enough time. Regardless of who will do your hair – you, a friend, or an actual professional hairstylist – it is very important to make sure you have plenty of time to create it from scratch. Calculate how much time is needed to create your hairstyle and add about 30 minutes on top of this (just in case you are interrupted, things don’t go as planned, or other similar situations). Last, but definitely not least, make sure your hairstyle goes well with everything else about your wedding look – your makeup, your dress neckline, your accessories, and so on.
Though it seems unfair to pay for a do that won’t get seen much (though I highly recommend going out to a fancy dinner on trial day to make it a little more worth it), a “trial” is as much work for a stylist as your wedding-day hair. So many salons will charge the same (pricey) fee for trials.
There may be a catch if the trial is cheap or free.
Some salons really will offer free trials, no strings attached. Others will make it free if you book (and pay for) your wedding-day hairstyle. Others will charge a reduced fee for trials, but won’t curl all of your hair or place your veil, headpiece, or hair clips. And you want to know exactly how your hair will look, accessories and all. Imagine not knowing that until your wedding day!) Get the fine print before you get in the chair.
Bring anything you might want in your hair to the trial.
You want as much time as possible to find the perfect silk gardenia with scattered seed pearls. But, as previously mentioned, you need to know exactly how your wedding hairstyle will look, so buy accessories in time for your trial. You may learn, as I did with my sparkly headband, that the piece you thought would look perfect is far from it. Better to figure that out at the trial than on your wedding day. However long it takes the stylist to do your wedding hairstyle at the trial is about how long it’ll take on your wedding day.

If a stylist is slow-moving at your trial, be sure to leave that much time for your hair to get done on your wedding day. You don’t want to wind up having to sprint to the altar. Another option: Book someone who moves faster.
Pay attention post-trial.
If you got naturally straight hair that doesn’t hold curls very well. Wouldn’t you know it, a couple hours after trial, your ringlets had practically disappeared. Bring this up to your fabulous stylist
Would you still skip a wedding hair trial? If you weren’t happy with your first wedding hair trial, would you get another one? How are you doing your hair for your wedding?
