2017 Bridal hair and makeup looks

March 30, 2017 by KWhairandmakeupartistry Leave a Comment

We proud to share 2017 Bridal Hair and Make up looks created by Key West Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist Elena Southcott. With the 2017 wedding season fast approaching hopefully this ispiration looks will be helpfll to 2017 Key West Brides.

Natural Wedding makeup

My research at this time of the year turns to the Bridal catwalk shows and big name designers to what is new and what timeless looks remain popular. My clients will always ask what is ‘on trend’ for the coming year.

In 2017 make up is fresher, and subtle with small flashes of colour here and there from a cheek or lip.  As always dewy, glowy skin remains very present as a classic, modern make up look for a Bride.

Natural bridal makeup look

Hair seems to have taken a gentler side too with very natural flowy hair down looks but braids do remain a dominant look too, either incorporated into a style or making up the whole hairstyle.

Remember the key is just to take a small part of these influences and incorporate them into your overall look so that your look remains timeless.

Braided half up bridal hair style

I am loving both of these understated, nearly natural looks.  Dewy skin and a pale pink lip look fabulous against our beautiful tropical settings.  Let your flowers etc. do the talking and keep the make-up simple. For a subtle peachy pink lip try Bourjois Souffle de Velvet in VIP Peach.  Long lasting too.

2017 bridal hair and makeup

For hair I am loving these low twisted chignon type braids  – perfect to keep you cool and your hair neat in the heat of a Key West summer.

Also these half up/half down with the braid at the back is a timeless look for a modern Bride.

Loose braded hair.
This year the return of the hair vines.  These now have a more modern twist rather than looking ‘princessy’ and can be beautiful if incorporated into a hairstyle.

Bridal Makeup Talk

February 9, 2017 by KWhairandmakeupartistry 1 Comment

As a makeup artist for over a decade working with a brides, I mast say:
“Makeup was invented to hide imperfections and to accentuate the beautiful angles and features on the face that you were born with”.
As a bridal makeup artist, I consider myself quite good at this task. I accomplish this using makeup that is usually found in tones that resemble human skin or rich bronzers. I use blushes and highlighters that will make your skin glow and reflect the light in just the right way.

Embrace your face, dear brides. The editorial makeup that might be appropriate for the cover of Vogue does not always translate well into real life.

For a wedding makeup, I suggest a more realistic “eye look” that will allow you to feel comfortable while still making you look good. I say “Let’s create a look that shows off your eye color and makes you look like a better version of yourself.
After 17 years as a bridal makeup artist, I can tell as soon as you sit in my chair, if you can handle a lot of makeup or not. But at least once a day non-makeup wearing bride will sit down and look me straight in the face and say “I think I would like a smoky eye. At the same time, begging me, not make them look like a clown. I would suggest “Let’s create a look that shows off your eye color and makes you look like a better version of yourself.

Those of you who think you are doing a great contouring job, I have some unfortunate news. We can see it from a mile away. We don’t see you and say, “Wow — those cheekbones that she was born with are amazing!” We say, “Wow, her flesh is hidden underneath 20 layers of foundation and banana powder
For bridal makeup,I would highly reccomend considering an airbrush foundation verses traditional makeup. It will give you deep beautiful bronze in the hollow of your cheek and a radiant sheen on the high point of your cheekbone. Best of all it will feel light and look natural. I will contour your face, but I will do it the way I was taught by some of the very best makeup artists on the planet. You will look like a bombshell bride, with hydrated glowing skin and makeup that makes your blue eyes pop and your cheekbones glow. You are simply a better version of yourself, and you will walk down the isle with your head held high, ready for your wedding day.

Makeup Beauty Tips on how to look your best on a wedding day.

Tip number one is:” Be Your Self”.

No makeup can hide tired looking Eyes so please Get enough sleep!
Eyes that aren’t getting enough sleep will look dull and lifeless, not shiny and bright. Your eyes are the first thing people notice when they look at you, so adding even 20 minutes more to your sleep each night can really make a difference on your wedding day.
Healthy skin prevents wrinkles around the eyes. Low-fat dairy products contain vitamin A which promotes healthy skin cells. Milk, yogurt, and cheese are great ways to get additional vitamin A—and the bone strengthening calcium. Fresh fruits and vegetables like berries, artichokes, and prunes have high antioxidants. These help your skin renew by protecting the skin cell membranes, which in turn creates healthy, glowing skin.
Makeup beauty tips include using collagen, a skin-supporting compound produced naturally in young skin that is responsible for a firm, young appearance. Since natural collagen levels decrease as you age, skin’s support system breaks down. As a result, wrinkles and bags can begin to form and skin looks tired. The Pentapeptides are combined with fatty acids to get the compound deep into the skin and you may start to see results in as little as four weeks.
But your best bet for healthy skin that opens a wonderful palette to apply makeup is water, water, water! Water helps the skin cells renew themselves. Drink at least eight glasses a day, and more during the hot Key West weather when the skin cells become dehydrated.
Eye makeup tips include using gentle make-up removers containing all natural ingredients that can improve the health of skin around the eyes as well as remove stubborn eye-makeup. Look for products with high water content, chamomile flowers, citrus extract such as grapefruit, and tea tree oil.
Other things that you can think about doing, is making sure that you get the right foundation, particularly when it is hot. If you are after makeup in the hot weather, then for makeup that will keep you looking fresh in heat and humidity, it is hard to beat Double Wear.

Update your makeup routine every few years.
Eye makeup tips can change with the season, just like fashion. Make sure you keep yours from looking dated. Here are some common makeup beauty tips “eye-don’ts” that will make you look dated:

— Bright colors: Don’t use a lot of different colors on your lids. Stay in the same color family.

— Blush as shadow: Don’t sweep blush across your lids and under brows unless it is a bronzer. The “pink” of blush is not appropriate for most skin tones.

If you want to create a striking look with eye makeup, we can choose colors that do not match. I like to use purples, bronzes and browns for green eyes; Peach, yellows, and gold shades are amazing with blue eyes.

Remember, there are many classic eye makeup colors that look great and are timeless. For example, We can try a soft brown with blue eyes to bring out the color or a smoky gray with brown eyes for that sultry look. I would use a bit of white to highlight, and you’re set, no matter what decade we are in!

Keep your brows well-groomed.
No amount of eye makeup can hide sloppy brows with stray hairs and no shape. The best thing is to have them professionally waxed or tweezed into shape at your local salon. Between visits, keep your brows neat by tweezing strays and keeping them brushed. You can cut long hairs with scissors or fill in thin brows with a pencil the same color as your hair.
If you are unable to go for a professional wax work over, you can still use this makeup tips for eyes.
Begin tweezing from the space between the brows by holding the skin taunt and plucking out unwanted hair. Complete the rest of the brows working from the inside to the outside. Remember to clean your tweezers and brows with astringent to prevent the spread of germs.

Need a fast fix for puffy eyes? Before your makeup artist arrives, use these tried-and-true (and free) all-natural make-up tips. Eyes can benefit from the cold! So keep chamomile tea ice cubes in the freezer for handy use. Gently rub them under and over puffy eyes to help reduce the swelling and calm skin irritation. Rinse you face in ice cold milk. The lactic acid in the milk tightens up your skin and minimizes pores while the natural emollients in milk help lock in moisture. Also, keep two spoons in the fridge. Place over puffy eyes to reduce any puffiness.
Other great ways to keep down puffy eyes is to sleep with a cool compress over the eyes. You can also use green tea bags or regular tea bags cooled and placed over the eyes. If your eyes are puffy, use cold wet tea bags to bring down the swelling.

Mature skin wedding makeup from Key West makeup artist.

October 7, 2016 by KWhairandmakeupartistry Leave a Comment

As a makeup artist I often work with mature skin brides.  Since most of weddings in Key West are held outdoors I think using a right makeup is a key to a flawless look. It is not a secret that right makeup can take years of your look. As a makeup artist my goal is to make you look modern and still age appropriate and let your ageless beauty shine.
“Nothing, nothing, nothing makes you look older than heavy powder formulas.”The use of Airbrush foundation is a must for Key West wedding or out door event. Because of the silicon formula it has that slit lift effect and helps to keep your fine lines on a background.
How about accentuating your best features?

Lately, I’ve had quite a few mature age brides. These are one of my most favorite transformations to do. It not only challenges me, but pushes me to be a better artist. I don’t think we can ever stop learning. !!

Eyelashes flatten as you age, and you need to keep everything going upward, against gravity. BY applying Faux lashes we can make your eyes look bigger and brighter.”
Deep brown has the impact of black, but looks less jarring and more sophisticated.
“A bit of soft shimmer is flattering as you get older because it brings light to the face I also like to Dab it on the inner corners of the eyes to wake up the face.
Neutral shadow, like champagne, pewter, or rose gold usually look beautiful.

It’s a sad fact that as we age, our lips get smaller, especially the upper lip. The best approach is to stick to shades that enhance your natural lip tone, rather than bringing attention to the area.
My choice would be something between your natural lip color and a berry shade.
Hope to see you soon .

Gourgeous Hair and Flawless Makeup for Key West Wedding

September 23, 2016 by KWhairandmakeupartistry Leave a Comment

Brides to be … congratulations on your upcoming  Key West wedding! Wedding planning is a
fantastically challenging process and there are times of utter confusion when making
certain decisions. Bridal makeup and hair styling is definitely one of them!
You love to be in the know of the latest makeup trends, follow tutorials on blogs and
video sites, always stop by a makeup counter to try out a new launch, but you still feel
like you are at a loss when it comes to your wedding day look.
While working with brides for over 20 years as a wedding hair stylist and makeup artist, one thing has always been consistent in my interaction with my brides. They want to look flawless and natural, but glamorous

Here are a few tips how to prepare your self for an up coming Key West Wedding.

I would recommend to Start looking for a professional artist at least 6 months before the big day,
especially if your wedding is on a Saturday or a long weekend.
It is acential that you are comfortable with your artist’s style. This includes reviewing their portfolio,
considering recommendations from their previous clients, and a one-on-one
consultation and trial hair and makeup session.

Please do set aside a reasonable budget for the trial sessions and your wedding day. Remember that the artist is investing time
and talent to help finalize a look that looks exquisite on you.

Please be open to your artistʼs recommendations. They do this for a living and know how
certain colors and intensities will turn out in pictures.
try out different styles of eyelash enhancements – extensions, individual lashes.
They look spectacular and mascara is no match for what they can do for your eyes!

Do remember that colors look different in different lighting situations. If you get a trial
session done for an evening event that is going to be in the soft mood lighting of a hotel,
don’t judge your makeup by looking at it in sunlight as it will look too bold.

Here are a few bridal looks that I created for your inspiration.
Amazing hairpieces making this wedding hair styles glow with chic essence. Please enjoy.
